Shouldn't we call this the Linux User's Group, rather than the Linux Club?

Agreed. No sense in going against years of established tradition --Auchtemm 03:28, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Too many positions? - We need President, Vice President, Treasurer, Web Admin, Public Relations

Lobby Rose-Hulman & IAIT to be more Linux-friendly

Can we find other LUG constitutions?

An interesting read: Michigan Tech LUG Constitution --Joshc 01:19, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

I think I like their format better than our current format. It's easy to read and to the point --WillFuqua 04:37, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I agree as well. I wikified and posted modified copy on the article page so we can discuss/edit it as well and see if we like it better. I took out the school related things. We may have to put some of those back in for what Rose requires. --Andy753421

A few of my thoughts:

  • I believe that it should be a listed duty of the Secretary to maintain the mailing list.
  • It seemed to me to be unclear as to when officer elections should be held. My suggestion for the officer terms: new officer elections are held once a year two weeks before the end of winter quarter. New officers take office in the spring quarter, after a transition meeting between old/new officers. Thus, officers serve from Spring, Year N, through Winter, Year N+1...got it?
  • Maybe we should, under the adoption section, include a manner in which the first set of officers will be elected into office.
  • I believe the wiki should be mentioned somewhere in the constitution, seeing as it may be the primary form of technical communication outside the meeting
- As such, maybe one of the positions should take care of making sure the wiki doesn't get outdated...also keep articles wikified and nice-looking (and laid out well)

  • We need a secretary to take care of things like attendance and meeting minutes. Also a webmaster and/or secretary should maintain the wiki and if nothing else poke the President and VP to keep it current.
